Andi Ohk Wins 1st Place for her Talk at the BioE Research Symposium!!!

  Our very own Andrea (Andi) Ohk won first place for her undergraduate student talk at the 3rd Annual Bioengineering Research Symposium here at UIC. She discussed her ongoing project on metabolites during the 1st and 2nd trimester in pregnant women with symptoms of depression. Congratulations Andi! We are all so proud of you!!!🎉

Study looks at menopause, cognitive function in women of color, including women with HIV

Dr. Peñalver Bernabé's mentor and collaborator, Dr. Pauline Maki, discussed her very important study looking at how menopause influences cognitive changes in a population of mostly women of color with and without HIV with UIC Today. She found that there was no difference in the cognitive decline in these two populations but observed cognitive decline during menopause nonetheless. Researcher uses gut-brain connection to unlock perinatal depression secrets
